If Vanessa Capito had a cushy office with a nameplate on the door, it would say “Vanessa Capito: Writer and Dungeon Master Extraordinaire.” As it stands, she does not have an office or a nameplate, but she does have a pretty nifty DM hat, with bells on and everything. (Or she did until her players took away the hat. Well, at least she writes.)
Vanessa’s first video game was Pokemon Yellow for the Gameboy Colour, given to her at the tender age of 4 by her parents in the hopes that Vanessa would eventually lose interest and go back to playing outside or with dolls. (Spoiler alert: it didn't work.) Afterwards, Vanessa managed to sneak in a few turns into Final Fantasy VII when the older kids weren't looking, and has some very fond memories of playing Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic with her cousin as a kid.

However, Vanessa didn't really fall in love with video games until she played Mass Effect years later. Not only was the Mass Effect series the closest she’d ever gotten (and will ever get) to her secret dream of becoming an astronaut, but it was also the first game that really drove home the immense potential video games have as a story-telling medium. From then on, she was smitten.
Vanessa is a huge Bioware fan, having been playing their games since she was a kid and also thoroughly enjoying their knack for creating rich narratives and engaging characters. Much to the disbelief of her friends, she does in fact, play games that aren’t Bioware games, such as Skyrim, Dark Souls, the Fable series, and the Bioshock series. She’s also a huge fan of stealth games such as Dishonored, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and the original Thief series, as well as space games, such as XCOM, Dead Space, and Starcraft II. Generally speaking, the higher and tougher the learning curve, the better. (Whether Vanessa is any good at mastering these high learning curves remains to be seen.)
Vanessa is determined to be involved in the narrative process of game development in some way, either as a writer or an editor, and is currently working towards earning a Bachelor of Communications Studies degree, as well as developing a stealth/action thriller RPG in the Story Nexus engine in her spare time. Vanessa joined RPG Gamer in January 2015 as a content writer. Her goal is to deliver informed opinions, thorough analysis and insightful observations in her articles, and most importantly, to be fair and honest in her reviews.
