To start, I would love nothing more than some official news from Bethesda about Fallout 4, and not just some teaser - something with irritated meat on the bones. We aren't getting it though. That leaves us Fallout fans without much to do but dream and imagine all the things they hope gets put in the next game.
A Call to Inaction
Yes. The lack of news about Fallout 4 sucks, but let’s take a step back and think about it. How many games have we seen this year that are launched broken, or buggier than a two-week old corpse? Do you remember getting Obsidian’s Fallout New Vegas on launch, and being unable to play it thanks to game breaking glitches? It was so bad that Amazon allowed customers to return it as a defective product. I’m more than happy to wait until Bethesda has the best quality game possible. Open world games aren't easy to make, and they become more difficult when you add the level of depth and detail that Bethesda does.
Even with the extra time taken, there will still be a few bugs. Just look at Skyrim. It had its issues and quirks, but none of those were game breaking on a massive scale, and it was a damn good game. Instead of being mad that we don’t have much of anything yet, let’s be grateful that one day we will have something amazing. If it takes a long time, so be it. If you rage out about having to wait, you need to reexamine your life. Take it easy. It’s just a game.

1. Different Races
Skyrim does this with the different ethnicities and species of Tamriel, why can't Fallout do it? We have humans from the Enclave, Wastelanders, NCR, and Vault Dwellers just to name a few, and wouldn't playing a ghoul, super mutant, and Android be fun? Bethesda could put a spin on the whole Elder Scrolls prisoner thing by having it be a cloning chamber. You get to choose your race, with the ghoul and super mutant being “mishaps” during the cloning process. The Android would be a last result when the Clone-O-Matic breaks down and leaves a puddle of protoplasmic goo.
“I don't want to use the Android, Carl. They give me the creeps.”
“Shut up, George. He can hear you.”
“How can he hear us? He isn't even assembled.”
“I…turned his head on months ago. I needed someone to talk to.”
"Carl. You're an idiot."

2. Equipment Customization
We saw this to a small degree in Fallout New Vegas with weapons, which is a good start. But why not expand it to all equipment? Let’s have armor that can be improved in various ways where the stealthy character could their armor better for sneaking about, and your straightforward run and gun character can be a more effective bullet sponge.
Beyond that, how equipment looks should be up for grabs. Players could customize things to fit their character’s personality or their own sense of style. It could also be a way for the character to disassociate a useful suit of armor or weapon from a particular faction. The idea of being mistaken for being a member of an enemy faction in Fallout New Vegas while wearing their armor made sense, but why couldn't we paint a suit of Brotherhood of Steel power armor brown and stencil on “NCR & Proud”, or Legion red with “Hail Caesar?”
